"Well thank you, Mr. Mayor. It is my privilage to give back to the community in this capacity. Thank you again, good day." Ancel pressed the speaker phone button with a well manicured fingernail and disconnected the call. It cost so much to get himself established in a new city. There were palms to grease, charities to donate to, and of course networks to establish. At least a well placed charity gathering of the wealthy and powerful would take care of many of those goals. The invitations had been delivered for his final inspection: [glow=red,2,300] Masquerade! Sir Ancel Schray requests your precense for an enchanted evening. October 31st At Schray Tower. Dinner and dancing With a champagne toast and unmasking at midnight.
All proceeds to benifit the Seattle Regional Hospital Childern's Wing [/glow] He smiled and rolled the parchment back up, slipping the ribbon back on and placed it on his desk. He pressed the intercom button and called to have the box picked up. Each one would be hand delivered to their intended reciepients.

The phone on the desk rang. The receptionist on the other end squeaked "Mr. Schray, a Dr. Carlisle Cullen is here to see you."
Carlisle had received Ancel's message. He had known Ancel was in the state, but had not seen him yet. The elegant invitation for him and his family had arrived earlier that day and he had been invited personally to visit Ancel's office. He hoped it would only be a social call. Ancel was an old world vampire, older than even Carlisle. Something about him had always made something in the back of Carlisle's head a little cautious.
He waited outside the office door in expensive leather lounge chair. The secretary, a small middle aged woman, smiled at him as she talked to Ancel on the phone. She had reacted to Carlisle's model looks the way most women did.

Ancel opened the handsomely carved double doors and smiled his charming smile that seemed to disarm just about everyone. Didn't work on vampires of course, at least not as it tended to for humans. "Dr. Cullen, I trust I haven't kept you waiting? Amanda, dear, see that we aren't disturbed."The receptionist nodded with a yes sir, and a fawning last look at both of them.
He gestured for Carlisle to come in and locked the doors behind them as they closed. Ancel was pleased to see his old aquaintence, it had been many years since they had last crossed paths. "It has been far too long my old friend, I trust you are doing well?" He hugged Carlisle in a friendly manner.
The office was richly decorated with antiques and unique artwork, fantastic persian rugs, and a massive hand carved hardwood desk. Ancel pressed a button on the desk and the shades slid apart, allowing a brief momment of sun to flood the room.

Carlisle stood and smiled broadly when Ancel entered the room. He was unchanged of course. He followed him quietly into the office thanking Amanda the receptionist as he passed. She blushed and nodded, watching him as Ancel closed the doors.
Carlisle returned the firm hug. It had been long. "Yes, very well actually." He said taking a seat in one of the red leather arm chairs across from his over-sized desk. "And you seem to be doing quite well for yourself." He said looking around the lavish office. It reminded him of his own, slightly more old world, but the books and artifacts were reminiscent of his own collection.
He wondered what Ancel was doing settling so close to his family. Seattle of course was ideal weather-wise, but there were plenty of other cities much more suited to Ancel's lifestyle. It seemed strange to him.

Ancel folded his hands behind his back. His eyes shown a dull brown with gold flecks. It was clear that he had not feasted on human blood in sometime and the he apparently had taken up drinking animal blood instead.
"My company has had a presence here for years of course, but I decided to move to Seattle for a change of pace. Thanks to inovations in teleconfrencing I can really run the company from anywhere. Frankly the lack of sunlight makes this a nice town to live in. Easier to move about. I have a lot to thank you for, Carlisle."
He picked up a fine looking wine bottle from the decorative bar and opened it. A smell of a fine red wine teased the senses. He pulled another bottle from the cabinet. In each glass he mixed some of the wine with the contents of the bottle, "Pig's blood. I hope it is alright."

Carlisle nodded as he poured the blood in a goblet. He would drink some to be polite, but livestock had never been a favorite to him. Carlisle much preferred wild game, and even that wasn't for pleasure, it was for survival. He wasn't thirsty, he didn't NEED the blood, but to turn it down would be rude. He took the glass he was offered. "Thank you." He said before taking a sip of the sticky warm liquid.
He went back to the conversation at hand. "Thank me for? I'm sure I have no idea what you mean." He said. And he honestly didn't. He didn't know what Ancel's sudden arrival so close to his family meant. He didn't know why he appeared to be setting up a more permanence residence here, but he would find out.

Ancel drank most of his glass before commenting. "My apologies. I have so little time to go out and hunt. I want to thank you for you introducing me to your lifestyle. Not being enslaved by my need for blood has allowed me to move about in the human world and amass something of a fortune."
Ancel rolled out a map of Seattle and a pointed to some islands north of the state border. "These islands are my private game reserve. When I have time I will go up there to hunt, so that I do not interfere with your family."

Carlisle took another gulp and he listened and then put the glass on the end table and sat back crossing his legs. "So you's adopted the vegetarian lifestyle?" He asked almost chuckling. He never would have pegged Ancel to do so. It was harder for older vampires to change their ways. Younger vampire's like most of Carlisle's family had a much easier time. But once you drank human blood for so many years it became more and more difficult to resist the temptation. Jasper was a perfect example of this. But with the proper support system it could be done. Carlisle was of course pleased to hear he had changed but it was surprising.
"It cannot have been an easy journey to change after so many years." He said glancing around the lavish office quickly, scanning the books and artifacts. "If you don't mind my asking, as I am always curious, how did you ween yourself off human blood?"

"It wasn't easy. I found that I used animal blood to take care of my thirst and human blood was more of a snack. Then I just stopped snacking between meals."
Ancel finished off his glass and sat it on the bar. "But, to buisness. I trust you recieved your invitation to the masquarade? All the money is going to the Children's wing of the hospital. I trust you will come, and bring the family."

Carlisle considered his method. It of course seemed logical but it wasn't that simple. No use questioning it further at this point. That could come later. Ancel moved on to the invitation Carlisle had received in the mail earlier. Alice and Rosalie of course had gone immediately into dress-mode, planning what they would wear and doing the same for poor Emmett, Jasper and Bella. Carlisle of course didn't want to spoil their plans but thought it best he check things out first before the start shoe shopping.
"Of course. The Children's Wing is a wonderful cause." He said with a warm smile. "May I ask who all will be attending that we are familiar with?" More specifically would there be other vampires there intermingled with the human upper crust of Seattle.

Ancel took a seat in the warm red leather chair across from Carlisle. "The board of directors and several other higher ups in the hospital, of course. The mayor's family, an invitation was sent to the governor's office..." He stopped to ponder again.
"If you mean to ask if there will be any of our sort, the answer is no. I don't think they could be trusted to behave in polite society." His face seemed to betray nothing; no deception or falseness. "I've not seen any since I came to Seattle though. Are you aware of any in the area?"

Carlisle nodded turning the glass in his hand as he sta back against the col hard leather chair back. "It would seem Garetth is in town." He said recalling the overly-dramatic run in half his family had had the other day.
"And I have heard we should be expecting some nomads passing through the area shortly. A woman, Jocelyn. A man, Lance. And some others I have not yet learned the names of." Of course Alice had seem them all in one of her visions. Nothing specific about their visit yet, just that they were expected.

"Garetth" the man's name seemed to inspire him to sneer and almost growl. "I had a run in with him, a few months back. He was pleasant enough, but his intolerance for me...trying to live among humans, as you do..." He rubbed at his temple as if the frustaration of it gave him a headache.
"Not to say that he isn't without his merits. I was glad to have him at my side when we were hiking in Asia. He has a great deal of respect for me. If I see him, I will try to make sure he doesn't feed in the area of your family. Trust me in this Carlisle."

Carlisle nodded "Nothing of course we couldn't handle. Garetth didn't seem to have any malicious intentions. He was most likely just curious of my family after all the recent... attention if you will." He said referring to their now infamous run in with the Volturi. They had attracted a lot of attention, some good, some bad and attention of any kind was unwanted.
"Do you recognize any of the other names? I have not met either and we are trying to anticipate if we will have any trouble with them." Carlisle said knowing Ancel, like himself had been around many years and made it his business to know what was going on in their world.

"I dare say I haven't had many run ins with vampires in the last decade or so. I try to keep my mind on work." Ancel paused to concider the names. He hadn't met a Lance. If the Jocelyn was the one he was thinking of...a smile crossed his lips, as if remembering a very special memory.
"I met a Jocelyn some time back, if it is the same one. Enchanting young woman. Has a talent for self preservation. I'll put my private security to work on tracking any unusual activity in the area."
Ancel leaned on the edge of his desk, "But let us move on to more plesant matters. I see your family has grwon rather exstensive these days. Your Edward has finally found himself a bride, and a child? How did that come about?"
