Jerith turned suddenly and saw a person down the trail. Who ever it was didn't seem to be interested in being bothered. Jerith turned to the backpack and started digging for the frybread and a jar of preserves. He started to spread the fruit onto a section of a fry bread and broke it off. It was even good lukewarm. He swallowed and lowered his voice so as not to be overheard.
"Thanks for coming out today Maya. Really wish we could have done this sooner. We will definately need to do this more often."

Maya followed his sight line and saw the girl too. She either did not see them or was ignoring them. She was standing on a smooth boulder, curling her toes around the cool rock to hold balance as she squinted to get a better look at the stranger. From what she could tell it was no one she knew. A pretty girl, she wondered if Jerith might have a similar reaction to the episode he had at the sight of Leah. No, that was ridiculous. He wasn't a sex fiend, he was just... in love, right?
She shook her head and lept down into the shallow water, tip toeing through it back to Jerith. She picked up a piece of bread and looked back in the girl's direction. "You know her?" She asked spread a little of the sticky jam on the bread and shoving it into her mouth. No point in niceties and manners around him, they had been friends since they came out of the womb, he was use to her often un-ladylike behaviors.

Jerith was swirling his hands in the water to clean the remains of the sticky preserves off his hands. He glanced up again in the direction of the woman who stood not far away. She did look at least familiar, but he had no idea why. He hadn't met many people since coming back to Forks, so it shouldn't be that hard.
"Nobody I know." He smiled at the way Maya devoured the fry bread

Heaving a sigh, the tourist gathered her back pack and settled her clothing before turning away from the pair. She wasnt in the mood to be yelled at for tresspassing on property, or find a couple who's only intention was to suck face in the woods. Adjusting her massive bright orange sweatshirt, Corliss pulled the hoodie up and slowly and carefuly made her way from the rock face that overlooked the river.

Maya frowned as she watched the girl start to walk away. Anyone who was comfortable being out here alone at night with all the animal attacks was either fearless or crazy. Maya pushed up the sleeves on her cardigan and stuck her hands in the cool moving water, letting it run over her fingers, carrying off the sticky jam and crumbs. She watched the girl, still trying to get a better idea of who she was.
Realizing she might look like a total creep she turned back to Jerith. "You almost done here? How many more samples did you need?" She asked as she packed the bread and jam back into her pack and swinging it over her shoulders.

Jerith pulled his pack on and tighted his boot laces again. He thought about what he had picked up so far and what, if anything else, he might want. "I think I am good for today." He started off down the trail closing in on the other hiker
As he did the wind shifted and he caught an odd scent. It wasn't anything he recognized. He waited for Maya to catch up as he got closer to the falls. "Think we should make sure she is alright, not lost or anything? It is getting late."

So much for peace and quiet within the dark of the woods. Yes being in them at night was stupid, but the two things that were the greatest harm to any human would not touch her. The vampires would smell the shifters scent upon her, and be repelled by it, and the shifters all knew her. As far as she knew she was the most protected and safe person in Forks. But that fact did draw away some of the past charm that she felt, that no danger exsisted to wisk her away.
She recalled her days of ghost hunting, missing the excitment and thrill that she got from seeing floating orbs in her camera lense, or the chill that she got when she stumbled upon a old graveyard. Now that she knew the scary monsters exsisted, life lost some of its luster.

Maya pursed her lips and looked in the direction of the girl down river. Jerith, always the hero-type, couldn't seem to leave well enough alone. Maya swore to herself if he even so much as flirted with her she would deck him so hard he'd never look at a girl again.
Maya stood on a rock, balancing on her bare feet and cupped her hands around her mouth, might as well get this over with. "Hey!" She shouted in the girl's direction. She raised her dark eyebrows waiting to see if she got the girls attention. She wasn't trying to be rude at all, but it seemed her and Jerith could never get a moment alone these days, and she needed her cousin now more than ever.
