Bella sighed and lifted her head back up, taking in Jake's familiar smell. She thought for a moment. She didn't like to think about Nes going off to school. They would need to help come up with a story for her. There was no way she could tell the truth about who her parents were. Of course there would be questions, Nessie was beautiful, far more beautiful than Bella was when she arrived at Forks High School and she remembered the attention she had received from boys there.
"You're right Jake. She's so lucky to have a friend like you." She said without even thinking about the words she used. Friend. He was more than that and she knew it. But she couldn't bring herself to think about that. Not right now. Maybe some girl time was in order. A vacation or at least a hunting trip. She considered where they might go as she picked up the spoon again.

Jacob decided to give her some space so he went to relax on the couch while she continued. Around the room were pictures of Edward and Bella, the entire family, and some of his personal favorites; Jacob and Reneesme.
There was the one of her when she was two, the size of a six year old. He was giving her a ride on his back while he was in wolf form. She looked like she was having the time of her life.
And there was the picture of her curled up with him, taking a nap in the hammok at the island home the family owned.
There was a great one of her where she was walking him on a leash. Since it would have been very strange for a family to have a pet wolf, especially one the size of a bear, he had learned to take the shape of a cute Jack Russel terrier.
He smiled at all the wonderful memories

Bella worked in silence, left to her own thoughts as she stirred the dough and then dropped them onto the pan in sticky mounds of chocolate and coconut. Mostly she thought about Nessie, and how she could help her get through these next few years. They wouldn't be easy, for Nes or Bella. But she was the mother. She had to be strong for Renesmee.
When she pushed the pan of cookie dough into the oven she walked into the living room and plopped onto the couch opposite Jake. She tiny frame sank into the cushions and she sighed heavily. She set the oven mits on her lap. "How are we going to do this Jake?" She asked. "I mean, how are we going to get her through this?"

Jacob scratched his ear and let out sevearl slow breaths, trying to find a way to put his thoughts into words. In reality, he had as little knowledge of these things as she did. Maybe less, he was a guy after all. It was awhile before he finally spoke. "We just need to be there for her, start treating her like she desserves to be. And answer her questions...honestly."

Bella looked up at him and pursed her lips as he said the last words. She wanted to protect her, shelter her, but she knew that she couldn't. The fact was that she was growing up at a rate nobody, not even Carlisle could predict. And it was clear Jake was growing impatient. She couldn't blame him. He had been patient for six years now, never pushing, but still waiting, like when she had waited for her own transformation from human life to vampire. She knew what it was like to wait. But this was her DAUGHTER.
A timer went off quietly in the kitchen. Bella snapped out of it and quickly pulled away, walking briskly to the stove and pulling out the tray to see if they were finished. Satisfied they were done she pulled them out and put the tray on top of the counter. She tried to distract herself from the thought of Nes leaving her so soon. "I know you like them piping hot. Did you want something to drink?" She asked flitting around the kitchen grabbing a plate and napkins for him.

"Yeah, piping hot cookiees are awesome." Jacob leapt over the back of the couch and went to join her in the kitchen. He stopped and listened. "Nessie will be in here in just a couple minutes, let's wait till she gets home."
He got a jug of milk from the fridge. "You know, I get that you are frustrated, you feel like you are loosing her as a little girl. She will always be your little girl. She needs you now more than ever Bella."

"I am not frustrated!" The glass in Bella's hand shattered under her inhumanly strong fingers and glass shards littered the kitchen floor. Her back was too him but her face was frozen. In her cold fist she held a handful of the glass which she released onto the floor. She stood still of a second, internally cooling her temper. She didn't realize until today how sensitive she was about the Nessie issue.
"Oh shit."She said under her breath as she quickly bent down to the floor sweeping glass into her palms. It didn't cut her cold hard skin but she couldn't get it all into her small palms.

"I'm not frustrated!" The words rang in his ears as he heard the anger in Bella's voice. Edward sighed when he smelt the puppy inside the house with Bella. "What did he do this time?" He thought to himself, referring to Jacob. Edward walked onto the porch and opened the front door swiftly before walking in. His eyes turned straight to the kitchen where Bells and Jacob were. He closed the door, never moving his eyes and walked hastily into the kitchen. His facial expression was one of concern and slight anger himself. He caught the thoughts of them both. Reneesme seemed the main subject of their thoughts. Edward sighed looking from Jacob with cold eyes to Bella. "Whats going on Bella?" He said moving to grab a clean towel to clean up the mess she made.

A split second before Edward arrived she heard his footsteps coming up the path toward the cottage. She was kneeling on the kitchen floor. A handful of glass shard clutched in her hand. She looked up at him as he came in. Her amber eyes were glossy and pained as she turned her hand holding the glass over, a few pieces escaping and falling on the hard ground, making a few tiny tinkling sounds. "I'm fine." She said automatically from her pitiful position on the floor.
He knew what was up. He would have certainly taken a peek into Jacob's mind. She knew his feelings on the Nessie issue were closer to hers. He knew she was struggling with the thought of letting her go so soon. That it gave her both pleasure and pain to watch their daughter grow up so fast. They had talked about it briefly, but not much needed to be said between them about it. Though she thought about it constantly, Bella had hoped to avoid really talking about it until it was absolutely necessary.

'Stinkle, stinkle, little twink. What the heck you are I think?' Jacob hated it when Edward was around. It was that he hated him personally, he just hated that he could read his mind. Bad enough that Bella was able to read his face and knew when something was bothering him.
"Afternoon Ed. You are looking lively today. Jacob went over and grabbed the trashcan and brought it over so they could grab the last of the broken glass.
'Greasy globbs of green, grimey, gopher guts. Little birdie's dirty feet. Manipulated monkey meat. Blood and guts all over the place and I forgot my spoon. But I remembered my straaaaaaaaaaaw.' He grinned to himself. Last thing he wanted him doing was catch him thinking about Nessie as anything besides as a little sister.
You alright there Bella?

He smiled and placed one hand on Bella's removing it from the broken glass and he picked it up off the ground. "Of course you are Bella." He said to her with a wink. Though Bella was a vampire now, he still did not really want her doing anything that could potentially hurt her, for example cutting herself on broken glass, which could not even happen anymore. Edward was still too over protective of her, and Reneesme as well. Edward threw the broken pieces into the trashcan and caught Jacob's mind trick. Edward grunted in humor at Jacob's attempts to block out his thoughts. "Always a pleasure...puppy." Edward said with a chuckling smile at Jacob.
Edward really had nothing against Jacob, or so it would seem to any outsider. Truth was Edward was still skeptical about this whole agenda. First Jacob tried get Edward's soul mate, and now he has his daughter. Edward did not fully agree with Jacob's whole imprinting thing, but he knew Jacob could not control it. It was a magical bond that could never be severed, no matter how much Edward wanted to.

Bella released the glass shards into the Edwards hand without a fight her palm left open and empty after he took them and discarded of them. She stayed on the ground as the two bantered on as they always did. The heavy competition was gone, she was Edwards but the lingering tension would never go away. Especially with Jake's bond to Nessie. He was a part of their family whether Edward wanted him to be or not.
Bella sat back on her knees and put her hands on her thighs looking down at the ground where the glass had been. Her eyes were weary with heavy thoughts of their complicated family. She sighed deeply as Jake and Edward had a mental battle, Jake trying to block Edward out and Edward pressing to get in. She had always been thankful she was spared from Edwards gift. She often wondered if it was the reason they worked out so well together, you see into someone's mind long enough you are bound to find something you don't like.

'Meow, meow, meow meow, meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow meow meow.'
He wondered if the songs he thought to block out Edward ever got stuck in his head. That was a fun thought and he grinned again. Jacob went back to sit on the barstool and wait. He was sure Alice and Nessie were on the way home.
"Look, I've been talking to Nessie. She is apprehensive about going to school. I've been trying to tell her that it will be a good experience...but I don't think she really wants to go."

Edward's eyes turned down to Bella as he left the puppy's thoughts alone for now. Jacob was bound to screw up sooner or later. Bella seemed rather upset to him. Though he could be wrong. He knelt down beside Bella with a shine in his golden hazel eyes. "Bella, whats wrong?" He said lightly grabbing both her hands and gently lifting her up into his arms as he gave her a welcoming hug and a loving kiss on the forehead.
Edward turned to Jacob when he mentioned Edward's daughter and school. "She is way too young mentally for high school. How are we going to explain this one? I'm sure Carlisle could think of something." He said to Jacob with a neutral expression on his face. He did not hate or like Jacob, he was sorta blank about the whole endeavor.

She didn't say anything and Edwards hands took hers gently and he pulled her up into his arms. She buried her face in his broad chest and closed her eyes. She felt his arms around her shoulders and let hers find their way limply around his waist. She heard them talking about her daughter. She closed her eyes tighter, but nothing could tune it out. She didn't know where she stood on the whole high school issue. She certainly LOOKED old enough to high school, but sometimes she said things or behaved in a way that made her seem more her actual age of 7 or 8. Not in a negative way, it was endearing really. But high school? Was she ready for that?
She sometimes wondered if it was polite to be physically affectionate with Edward in front of Jake, with their history and all. But she didn't often realize she was doing it. And if Jake wanted to be a part of this family it was something he would have to accept. Still she turned in Edward's arms to she was facing Jake, holding Edwards arms closed around her waist. They were united, and they were her parents. If they decided she wasn't ready for high school (a conversation they hadn't fully had yet) then Jacob would have to accept it for the time being.
