Sarah decided to spend the afternoon away from helping Opa in the shop and most importantly away from Paul. She loved her cousin, but there was a limit to how much of him she could handle at a time. And well, he had gone over the limit today. So she had grabbed her messenger bag and threw a few books in it, along with a bottle of water and a few carrots and celery sticks she grabbed from the refrigerator on her way out the door.
The sun was (as usual) hidden behind a blanket of clouds and Sarah pulled the hoodie closer around her. It wasn't cold enough to make her rethink her afternoon out, but it was chilly enough that she loved the feel of the hoodie (not that she didn't already, as hoodies were her favorite part of her wardrobe). She headed for the forest behind the house, wanting to get away from all semblances of modern, normal society. That and sometimes she found nice pieces of wood in the forest for Opa to use in the shop. She still wore the necklace he had made her for her tenth birthday. It had been part of a piece of driftwood they found on the beach the last time she visited, and she loved it.
Sarah smiled as she found her favorite spot still the same way she remembered it from the last time she had visited her grandparents years ago. Even years ago she used to run off into the woods, playing games with her brother and exploring the forests. She had found this spot one time after getting separated from Greg when she was seven. The fallen tree made a perfect bench, the moss covering it making it soft enough to sit for hours or even lay on. She used to come out here when she was younger and visiting to just lay and look up at the trees, loving the greenness of everything. Chicago was far from green, and as much as she loved the city, she loved the green of the rez.
Taking a deep breath and sighing with a smile, Sarah sat her bag down beside the fallen tree and set down before quickly turning and laying down along the trunk, curling her hands under her head. This was pure beauty.
