Maya went to the other side of the table and sat down, putting the tupperware container on it and resting her hands on the surface, leaning forward toward him a little the hair fell from behind her ears. She looked over his shoulder to make sure Gran was safely outside out of earshot.
She bit her lip and looked back into his eyes before exhaling. "Ok. So I don't know what's going on here." She started. "Ever since I... re-met you I guess at the beach the other day and you freaked out it's like things are different." She hoped she wasn't sounding stupid. She wondered if this was going on both ways or if she was just crazy. "This might sound insane but something was telling me I had to tell you. It's like... something's been pulling me to you." She laughed a little at the insanity of it. "An much as I tried to fight it here I find myself, in your kitchen." She gestured to the room before dropping her hand to the table again with a sigh.
She looked back up at him, hoping he wouldn't call her crazy or laugh.

Duncan sighed as his arms crossed over his chest, shaking his head as his matted blond hair bounced, free of gel for now. Everything she said was true, the imprint normaly did go two ways, only he was the one obsessing about her, and she just felt the pull. Its how it worked, and for the better. But part of him always felt it to be rather unfair, seeing she didnt have a choice, and he never could have one. Even if they never spoke to eachother again, he would always think of her, watch her, and maybe even turn into one of those crazy stalkers. And that was the last thing he wanted.
But he couldnt really come out and say 'Hey Maya I'm a shifter..the reason you feel drawn to me is because I imprinted upon you so we can have sex and make more little shifters..cool huh?' No, that just didnt sound right at all. Swallowing harshly, Duncan looked to Maya and felt like a horrible monster. She was so confused, and concerned, her face echoing her emotions. Oh what he wouldnt give to just hold her face and kiss her a million times.
"I'm sorry I freaked out...I dont know what happened. But you..scare me Maya. Your so..ferice and you dont really think too much about others when you talk. You just caught me off guard. I'm not saying your a bitch, but...you intimidate me. Thats why I was being a freak at the beach. And...I'm trying here. But no matter what I say you just dont want to hear it."

Maya listened, a wrinkly forming between her eyebrows the more he talked. She had intimidated him? Fierce? He thought she didn't care about people? Is this how she came off to the rest of the reservation too? Maybe this is why she was such and outcast.
She thought for a moment, not looking at him and not saying anything. He was trying but when he said the last part about her not wanting to hear anything he said her blood started to boiling again. She tried not to show it. He WAS trying and he was being honest with her, the least she could do was show the same respect. Honesty was something to be admired, right? She pursed her lips before uttering "I'm sorry." The words were clear but it was one of the hardest apologies she ever had to make. She felt like they were both in the wrong but she was trying, and trying hard.
She smiled again "This would be so much easier if it was going both ways. I feel like a crazy person." She said with a chuckle. It was clear to her she was feeling the need to be near him and he was pulling away, or at least not feeling whatever force was drawing her in. She felt like crying but mustered everybit of strength in her body and just looked up at him doe eyed.

Hurting her with his words was one of the last things he wanted to do, but the truth always seemed to be a better option. Well, in this case the most truth that he could give her. It would always be impossible to come right out and say what had happened, no matter how he worded it. Hell he doubted Hallmark had a card for -that-. With a small sigh, he ran his fingers through his matted hair and then sat down in the seat across from her, looking down at his cold breakfast.
"I like you Maya. I'm not saying I love you. But I like you. Can we just settle on that and try to be friends?" His voice was quiet, picking up his fork as he scooped up a bunch of the cold eggs and shoved them into his mouth.

She saw him smile. At least he didn't hate her she supposed. Liked her. What did that mean? And who said anything about love? She wasn't in love with him either. She resisted the urge to explode again. She didn't want to reinforce his idea that was was uncaring or a bitch. Instead the bit her plump bottom lip hard and looked down at the formica table top, scratching at it lightly with one slender finger.
"Friends..." She said quietly under her breath to herself, mulling the word over in her head. Friends she had few of. There was of course Darcey, but he was a dog. And Jerith, but he was her cousin. And there WAS Leah, until she fell head over heals for Jerith. So now there was just Darcey again. Friends of the human kind she could use.
She tucked her wild hair behind her ear and looked back up at him as he took another bite of the cold eggs. "How about a do-over of the other day then friend?" She asked crossing her long legs and leaning back in the chair. "You surf. It's a nice day for this late in the season. And I don't think you wake up early enough to catch the morning surf very often, otherwise we might have run into each other sooner." Not to mention the fact he obviously would be been asleep for a few more hours if the smell of food hadn't ripped him from his bed.

"Yea, I sleep alot. Its not my fault really. When I was a kid I got diagnosed with a sleeping sickness, its like a pernament form of Mono or something. So when I'm stressed I need alot of sleep..." It wasnt a lie really, he did have the small bit of sleeping sickness. In fact before he changed, he was often found tucked in bed when he didnt need to be awake. If he didnt, he would get sick. He didnt mind, sleep was nice and all, but after so many years of missing out on alot of life he was getting fed up with it. "So Nan's used to it. Sometimes she wakes me up and other times she dosnt. I'm not in school and my jobs on my own schedual so it dosnt really matter..."
He always made note to pace himself while eatting infront of others. Nan was used to seeing him devour a whole plate in a matter of seconds, but others would get a bit grossed from the wolfish way of eatting. Picking a peice of bacon, he nibbled on the fatty edge and then looked to her again. "I do surf, it seems like its on of the only things to do around here.."

She listened to Duncan's either excuse or unfortunate truth about his sleep thing. She really didn't care if he just liked to sleep. It seemed kind of like a guy thing to sleep in a lot. She couldn't help that she naturally woke up early. Maya supposed he had no reason to lie to her, he must actually have some weird sleep illness, it made her feel kind of bitchy for judging him so quickly.
Maya watched him take a bite and comment on surfing. He didn't accept her offer. He didn't really turn it down though either. She absently braided a thin lock of her hear from the inside of her neck as he talked. "Yea, I am actually surprised I HAVEN'T seen you down there before. I spend a ton of time on the beach." Judging by his tan, only a little of which could be attributed to his native blood, he must have spent a lot of time in the sun too.
Maya decided to be forward about it. She had nothing to loose after all. "So you'll go then? My jeep is in your driveway, I'd be happy to drive. We can leave as soon as your finished with breakfast." She shrugged "If you're still hungry we can grab some lunch later too." She hardly knew what she was saying anymore until the words came flying up her throat and out of her lips.

"I'd rather much..not have the distraction of surfing..." Duncan wasnt honestly sure that he could go back to that beach without seeing her dying within the waves ever moment that he looked upon the ocean. He would never admitt it, but why he worked so feverently upon her board was he was terrified to sleep, driving himself to exaustion just so he wouldnt dream, and see her slipping into the icey depths over and over again.
"We can go for a mutt run with Darcy.." Duncan offered, setting his fork down and taking a huge swig of the ice tea that Nan poured earlier, right next to his huge glass of milk. He wasnt fat at all, so it was a wonder to where he packed all of the food away. "Oh, sorry...mutt run is what I cann a walk through teh woods with dogs. My clients..." Duncan grinned, his smile just as charming.

Maya was discouraged as he promptly turned her down. It would have been nice to have a surfing buddy for once. She did enjoy the solitude of being out on the ocean alone (though she probably shouldn't be out there alone in he first place) but sometimes it would have been nice to share a wave with someone. She frowned a little, continuing to braid the lock of hair down to the end and letting it fall onto her shoulder.
When he offered and alternative she gave him and inquisitive look. "Mutt run"? Sounded weird, but when he clarified she understood... kind of. He was a dog walker. Not the biggest money maker, but she wasn't one to talk, day care wasn't much of a career path either. She smiled when he called the dogs his clients. It was so interesting to her, he seemed to have a real respect for his canine pals. She could relate... kind of. She had a kind of respect for the kids she watched, an understanding of the way they communicated and saw the world. She imagined he had a similar relationship with the dogs.
"Sure." She said with a shrug. "Whenever you're ready to go."

Upon seeing her less then enthusastic response to his suggestion, Duncans smile quickly faded as he just pushed his plate away and stood up. He was trying here, attempting to make a small rickity bridge between them, and she just didnt seem all that interested. Part of him wanted to rip her apart, but most of him just wanted to spill everything to her so she would understand why it would be some time before he could ever go back to the beach.
"Forget it. I'm sure you had better plans anyways. Nice seeing you Maya..." Duncan responded, his tone more bitter then he intended it to be.

She stood up quickly as he tried to make his escape. He had clearly misunderstood what she had been trying to say. "Wait! Duncan please!" His name. Why did it feel so good to say his name? When she said it it came out clearly, but to her felt like a sigh, a release. She froze. What had happened between them? It was like the more time she spent with him the weirder things got. But she didn't want to stop.
She walked around the table and stopped a few feet away from him. She froze again afraid to get any closer than necessary. She slouched and dropped her arms to her side with a sigh. "This isn't the way this was supposed to go." She said looking up at the ceiling and then back down at her feet. "I mean, it's not like I was planning this out or anything but... I guess I had hoped this would go better." She searched his face quickly, letting her brown eyes run over his features again before dropping them to the floor. "That's typical Maya though. Push push push. That's all I do. Push people away." She said more to herself than him, though she was sure he could hear it, most likely something he already could tell on his own.
