Leah shook her head and put on her thinking face. The fact that she didn’t have a clue who this Duncan guy was… well it was simply pissing her off. Maya had just gotten back from wherever and she already knew someone Leah didn’t. And from the sound of it, he was a shape-shifter. Leah really needed to talk to Jake about this. What were this guy’s plans? Why the hell was he on the rez?
“So what’s he like? Did he act kinda… I dunno, weird around you.” Shape-shifters were dangerous people to be with. They could just snap instantly if someone mentioned a word that severely annoyed them. Luckily, Leah managed to get away from people before she shifted. Most of the time, anyway. Her rage was generally taken out on her brother of Alpha.

Leah was really quite curious about Duncan. It was a little weird but he was sort of a curiosity on the reservation. She shrugged as they walked. She didn't know how much of the event at the beach she wanted to share, but it was nice to have someone, especially another female to talk to about it. "Well yea. He saw me and it was like..." She stopped and thought ...like he was in pain." She shook her head, still perplexed by it and a little embarrassed. "I'm sorry, that's crazy right?" She said looking to Leah.
Her boots squished into a soft spot on the trail and the mud oozed up over the toe of her boot. She kept walking glad she wore her boots today instead of going barefoot. Darcey trotted along stopped every so often to look back at them to make sure they were coming.

It was frustrating the wolf-girl that she didn’t know who this Duncan fellow was. Surely she should know him from somewhere or something. Leah had been on the Rez her whole life and didn’t even know someone that Maya did. That was really getting Leah annoyed. But when Maya responded to Leah’s question, a sudden recall of the time Sam had explained his imprint on Emily came back to her. It feels like everything you think you know is a lie. That your heart has been ripped out of your chest. That all loves before seeing the person you imprint on mean nothing.
Of course, Leah couldn’t be totally sure that it was an imprint occurring between this Duncan fellow and Maya. But it definitely wasn’t crazy – to Leah, anyway. Something else that was really bugging Leah was that she couldn’t tell Maya about the whole shape-shifter thing. It was s damned annoying, lying to the girl all the time. And here came another lie, straight out of Leah’s mouth. “Maybe he was ill, or something.”
Ill!? Ill!? That was the best Leah could come up with on the spot. But she started mentally beating herself up for making such a ridiculous excuse like that appear and force itself out of her mouth. Ill!? [/size]

May shrugged. She doubted he was ill, perhaps mentally ill. No, that was mean. But it was perplexing to her and yet she still couldn't help but still be drawn to him. She had gone to his house for god's sake. She didn't know why she was doing it but all the sudden it was like something was pushing them together. She was seeing him everywhere and even out here she couldn't escape him.
Maya tried to change the subject. "So, uh... What are you doing all the way out here?" She asked. It was probably a stupid question but she needed to give herself a break from thinking about Duncan.
{OOC: Sorry so short. Trying to catch up everywhere.}

Leah could tell that Maya wanted to have a subject change. Although Leah desperately wanted to hear more about this guy – friends, lovers, family, etc. – she decided to just let the subject be switched over to something else. But as Maya asked the question, Leah almost bit her lip. She couldn’t tell Maya that she was running around in wolf-form. So the next – and probably not last – lie of the evening left the woman’s lips.
“Oh, well, I was hiking.” Another stupid lie. Leah could do a lot better than that, usually, but today her brain wasn’t exactly in the lying mode. Stupid brain.

She nodded and stepped onto and over a rotting log. Hiking? She didn't look dressed for it, but who was Maya to judge? "I need to find some new hiking spots. I know most of the ones around here like the back of my hand now." She smiled and looked up at Leah. It was true, she could practically walk these obscure trails blind folded and not miss a step.
"I think I'll ask my cousin for some new maps. He's moving back into town. Do you remember my cousin Jerith?" She asked. It was long shot, he had left the reservation very young, but Leah might recall at least who he was. Maya was so excited to have him back around. He was her favorite cousin, practically a brother and they had spent time together in Portland while she was in school. She stayed with his parents, her aunt and uncle while she was there and most holidays were with him and his family. I would be nice to have someone other than Darcey to talk to now.

Leah shook her head apologetically, “No, I can’t say I remember him… sorry.” She replied to Maya’s question about her cousin. It didn’t really bother her very much, he was just one guy, right? But this… Duncan boy… yes he interested her a lot. Not in the lovey dovey sort of way. But she desperately wanted to know more about him. She couldn’t push Maya anymore without looking extremely pushy.
“You’ll have to introduce me to your cousin some time. Where does he live?” Leah asked, pushing a small tree branch out of her way. She felt a spider crawl across her hand and she flicked it off immediately without a sound.

She sensed Leah was disinterested in her cousin. But she asked. "He's a ranger out in the park. So he's usually out there in the fire towers." She shrugged. "When he has time off he'll probably come stay here on the Rez with me and my mom." She said with a smile. It would be nice to have someone around the house to cook with. Hopefully she could convince him to go out and surf with her. "I'm sure you'll see him around sometime." She said. The reservation was pretty small, it was inevitable she'd run into him at some point.
Sh walked in silence for a few minutes. "It's funny running into you out here." She said now talking without thinking. "I guess not 'funny' but nice. It's good to see you again." She said hoping she didn't sound stupid. But she didn't often talk to people, especially other girls. Some female companionship would be nice. Even though Leah was a bit older than her, she hoped it would turn into a friendship. Her mom was always telling her she needed more friends. It was probably true.

Leah nodded and smiled. “Yeah. Maybe we can hang out more often.” She nodded and ducked below a big tree branch. There were too many of them blasted things. Then again, they were in a forest, so… if the trees annoyed someone, it wasn’t exactly the place that person should be.
But Leah really did want to find a friend in Maya Song. It’d be really good to have another girl friend. Leah was like one of the guys. That pissed her off, not because she was sexist, but just because she was in the pack didn’t mean she thought and acted like a guy.

Maya smiled. She tried to think of what girls did when they "hung out". Shop? Go out for coffee? Yech. Not her style. She bit her lip now hoping she wasn't dooming herself to boring Saturdays in the Port Angels mall. "Do you surf?" She asked hopefully. It would be nice to not be the only girl on the swell. She usually was and it got tiresome. On occasion one of the boys would bring their girlfriend and attempt to teach her to surf, but they always lost interest or get "too cold" and it ended up being a PDA-fest on the water instead of a surfing lesson.

Shrugging, Leah responded to Maya’s question about surfing, “Occasionally. I haven’t really had much time to, and I lack a board, so…” Leah had been surfing about three times, twice with Seth and once with… him. That was before… she came into the picture. Yes, that was a really good day on the beach… but… it was all gone now. Everything… gone. It really did sadden her, even after so many years.

Maya beamed. She was at least open to it perhaps then. "Well if you're ever looking to give it another try or at least get out of the house I have a spare board and wet suit. You are more than welcome to borrow them." She said with a wide grin. She would have to of course re-wax the old long board in the back of the closet. It had been ages since she had used it and never had anyone to surf with, so it was collecting dust. She made note to pull it out and do that tonight, just in case.
Darcey was now rolling in something 100 meters up the trail. "DARCEY!" Maya snapped clapping once. He froze and turned a head to her. She frowned and his ears went back. She stood up and started trotting back, his fur now matted with god knows what. She sighed. So much for waxing the board, he was going to need a bath. "Gross. Just perfect." She said shaking her head.

“Awesome! Thanks, Maya. I’ll look forward to that, we shoul-“ Leah was cut off as Maya shouted at her dog, who was rolling in… was that horse crap? Leah forced herself not to laugh, this really was a strange day. The subject was constantly changing, now Darcey was rolling in a heap of muck.
“I can help you bath him if you like?” Leah depserately needed distraction. This was the perfect chance for one.

Maya sighed in exasperation as Darcey came closer, she could now smell him. She rolled her brown eyes and covered her nose as she smell hit her like a smack in the face. She should have been keeping a better on him. She frowned thinking about trying to scrub him off in the tub at home. "Oh christ." She said under her breath. Leah offered to help. "Hah. Really?!" She asked raising an eyebrow at Leah. "I don't even want to go anywhere near that."
She thought for a moment. "There's a spring about a mile to the east.." She said pointing off the trail to their right. "Maybe we can get him to rinse off a little." She said stopping.

“Trust me… I’ve touched worse” Leah muttered, that being the leeches down the lane. And then sometimes in her wolf form she’d stepped in some pretty sick stuff while running through this very forest. Yuck, some of that stuff made you want to gag.
But as the smell Darcey was now giving off attacked Leah’s extra-sensitive nose, she wretched and ran over into the trees to be sick. She groaned as the vile tasting stuff flew out of her mouth and apologized to a passing squirrel who sprinted away at the smell.
